Well, the underdog 1100 I purchase in non-running condition finally fired up for me a few days ago. After a few victory laps around the neighborhood I took it back to the garage to tune the carb a bit...

Then the starter gave its last turn... Fortunately, I've got a new one on the way. It's not easy finding things for these old horizontal shaft B&S motors!!
I guess the prior owner used to smack the starter with a BFH when it acted up. No bueno!! |

As a positive note, if the PO's did not do things like
wack with hammer wrap with baling wire refill with wrong fluid let fuel go stale neglected to ____________(fill in the blank) then these machines would not be available to those of us NEW OWNERS that are enjoying them now!! ![]() The PO would still be running them!! ![]()

BFH= Big Fat Hammer?
In my case, I would not have gotten my 147 if the PO new how to replace a fiber wear button on a PTO before it wore down to the point of chewing up the throw out levers and eventually gernading the bearing inside.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
