Sounds like its not getting juice to the coil itself. Look into your connections and check the wire from your switch t the v/r then to the coil

When you are cranking the engine over, do you have 12+ Volts going to the Ignition Coil..???

how do i check the coil for 12 volts?
in detail please. i put the red prong to the +of the coil and the - into the coil tower where the plug wire goes. did it with key in the on pos and the starting pos. both had 12+ volts. was this correct?

i have put everything from a working tractor on the 108 and nothing. v/r, s/g, coil, condenser

could it be a bad ignition switch or the switch that the brake/clutch peddle pushes down?
thanks

With a VOM or DVM, using the DC Scale for at least 15V or more. The RED test lead goes to the positive ( + ) side of the Ignition Coil, and the BLACK test lead goes to the negative ( - ) side of the Battery terminal (or a known good chassis ground).

Sounds like you have the vr wired wrong, I've done that more than once and cussed my machines only to find that it was wrench turner error..

If the engine is cranking, then it won't be a clutch pedal safety switch or a PTO Clutch safety switch which is located up under the dash. If the motor is not cranking period, then it could possibly be one or both of these safety switches. At that point you will want to check the switch with an Ohm meter to see if it is working.

Just another thing to check. Sometimes new points contacts need to be cleaned with fine sandpaper to make sure you get good contact.

If it turns over, but won't fire, take a jumper lead and go from the positive post of the battery directly to the coil. It should fire.

My first question is: If you don't know if the points are working/have power to them... How do you know they are set right?

I agree, this is the fastest and easiest way to make it run.

The fastest way to find out if there is power going to the coil is; connect your test light to the neg battery post and touch the point to the positive side of the coil and turn the key to the "run" position (the light should come on).

To see if the points are making contact; connect the clip on your test light to the neg battery post and touch the point to the neg side of the coil and crank the engine over, if the points are working the light will go off when the points make contact and on when they are open.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
