Default 782d fuel pump

I was checking out the 782d i just got and found that it has a mechanical fuel pump on the injector pump housing. The orig. elec. fuel pump is still in line but not working, am i going to have any problems if i put a new elec. pump on? should i remove the mech. pump and put a block off plate to cover hole or just let it alone? Thanks, Mark

Just replace the electric fuel pump. It won't hurt the mechanical. Your really should run both. I would not suggest taking the mechanical one off. It makes more pressure than the electric. The electric is just to push the fuel up to the mechanical pump so it doesn't have to "prime" every time you start. If the mechanical one is bad, replace it too.

Why does my 882 only have an electric pump? did someone remove a mechanical or were they made differently?

dieselsmoke, as far as I know, the 882 only came with an electric pump as did all the other diesels. The real question is why yours has a mechanical pump. Was the engine replaced in it from another type of machine?

The CC parts book shows this. Notice how in the upper left it says "tractors with an electric and mechanical pump". I do not have a diesel cadet, but have worked on that same engine in other applications. I don't know what they came out with, and by the parts pic, if they ever did have both, only the electric is available now. By the way, don't buy that electric pump from cadet. You can get an electric fuel pump from a parts store. O'reilly's has one for diesels. If I remember correctly, they are less than $100. On CC parts page, they want $250. Honestly, I think the mechanical one would probably suck fuel from the tank by itself, but the electric does seem to prime faster. Either way, you can run just the electric, or both. Really doesn't matter.

Thanks for the replies everyone, i had never worked on a 782d before and wondered if they were a different design. all my other cub diesels just have the elec. pump but they do have the plate for where you could install a mech. pump on them as well.I bought a elec. pump at napa #610-1051 for $55.oo now just to install.

northern power products out of Eagan MN sell genuine kubota parts for lot cheaper then a kubota dealer. I think the diesel electric pump from them was under 70.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
