169 trouble
I picked up a 169 with the hydraulic lift ,3 point hitch and the 90 degree gearbox. I removed the gear box as another collector needed it for a tiller. Of course when I returned the plate rear end cover was leaking. No big deal. I thought. Yeah right. When I removed the cover, I noticed RTV and a heli-coil on the left side half way up. Not good. The previous owner had installed a bolt too long and broke the entire lug off. Only one thing to do. Get it to the welder and weld a stud onto the cast iron with Nickel rod. $40.00/pound and very difficult to use. The surrounding area has to be heated to 600 DEG. Welded, peened then brought down in temp gradually. Took me all afternoon. Welding in a thunderstorm was a thrill. All done. The point is,,,,be very careful to install the correct bolts in the plate covers. Still this is going to be a nice tractor. Maybe a month from now. I'm still compiling a list of all of the shortcomings and parts to be replaced.

you did the welding yourself ,good job.I'm a bit heavy handed when tearing tractors down,something Ive learned to curb !, I broke a brake lever on the rear on the 70 and a lever on the pedal of a 123 both cast pieces.Took me forever to find new ones!

To add what Eagle stated, a loose Tiller Bracket causes multiple problems with bolts and bolt holes. Be SURE you Tiller Bracket is mounted securely.
