Default New to me Model 86

I finally got a Cub, a '72 model 86. She looks pretty good and with only the regular stuff for an antique that has been sitting. I got her running and driving around. I am trying to figure out what I am missing on the front PTO so I can turn the deck on and off. From what I have been able to find the clutch assembly is there but everything that attaches to the end of the rock shaft is missing. Just a broken bolt in the end of the finger. One diagram shows a wear button attaching there, another shows the same button along with a brake shoe and disk. I am leaning towards the brake shoe and disk because of the distance between the clutch and rock shaft seems to big for just the button. However the turnbuckle between the PTO lever and rock shaft did not have any lock nuts on it so it could be way out of adjustment just from vibrating there for who knows how long. How can I determine for sure what parts I need? Any help would be appreciated.

You want to look at your pto rockshaft to determine which style you have. Here's one with a brake shoe for reference.

The difference between the 2 rockshafts is the hole for the brake shoe is recessed on the shaft, where as the hole for the wear button on a non brake shoe type rockshaft is flush with the shaft. So you want to look at the hole that broken bolt is in.

Here's an example of the non brake shoe type rockshaft.

Is the width of the piece of flat that either the button or shoe assembly attaches to another way to tell? From the two pictures you listed the brake shoe seems wider.

Figures I would get the more expensive one. But I bet the brake lasts longer.

I think the width is the same for the 2. If you post a pic I can tell which rockshaft you have. I have both types of rockshafts at home, and i use the brake shoe pto on my 108.
You could always switch rockshafts, depending on which style pto you want to use. As long as you can get the rockshaft bushing off so you can remove the rockshaft from the frame.
