i am trying to install a rear lift setup i removed from a 123 onto my 122. the problem im having is installing the long lift lever that runs to the back of the tractor. on the 123 i removed the 2 5/16 bolts from where it attaches from the manual lift arm and the whole works pulled right out the back.
on the 122 the rear end has some kind of casting that bolts through the side of the frame right where the bar runs and the only way i can get it to fit is to remove the swivel part off the front first. then im not sure how on earth I'm going to get that part back installed under the tractor and get that little cotter key installed with everything in the way. there must be a trick to it i was only hydro til now and need advice from you gear drive guys! whats the best plan of attack here? thanks ps. i included a pic looking up through the frame from the back of the tractor where im trying to insert the bar. the piece thats in the way is very hard to see but it's way up in the front its part of the rear end casting and bolts up to the side of the frame.

Unfortunately that's exactly what you have to.do... Remove that bracket on the front of the bar its a real pain in the rear to get the pin back in it also but you have to kinda play with it once the bar is on I found it easier with two people but is very possible.

If the lift arm ratchet is removed from the frame it will make it easier, so will a needle nose pliers to put the cotter pin in.

thanks guys i got it by taking the left rear tire off so i could reach the back and front of the bar and hooking the two together right in front of the rear end first. then after cotter key was installed with needle nose i was able to slide up the rest of the way and then install as normal. i left the ratchet in but maybe should have removed instead?
anyway i figured there was no magic answer just seemed weird how in a hydro it takes 10 minutes and in a gear drive more like 45! grrrr. i guess ill appreciate it more now lol

maybe i shouldn't change gears mid thread but does anyone have a picture of a properly installed IH spring assist where the L bracket bolts up to the frame? on the 123 they had to bend the rear tin piece above the rear end because the L bracket interfered. should it have been notched or did they have the bracket on wrong? does it go on top of the frame or below it?

I feel your pain I just did almost exactly the same thing the other night. Took the lift off a 127 and put it on a 124. I was presently surprised when it came out of the hydro so easily but got pretty frustrated with how difficult it was to get into the gear drive. I ended up taking off the footrests and dropping the whole lift arm assembly out of the way to get the cotter pin in. What a pain.

Yeah, I'm going thru the same thing too. I just put a rear lift and a hydro unit on my 147 and I cant get the cotter pin in either. I've done it before but this one is driving me nuts. I'm going out in a while to give it another shot. Maybe I'll get lucky.

Yet another reason why a hydro>gear drive. Not trying to start the war/debate, just had to throw that in there. ![]()

Only Cub Cadets have a Implement Tec. Section Forum. There you will find the Installing Instructions for Implement Handel Helper Spring. Just read that today!
I did have a whale of a time installing the lift bar attaching plate assembly to the implement lift bar. I used a nail and long needle nose pliers. What did free up a little more room for the lift bar was backing out the fender mount bolts you see in your picture.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
