Angry help please

OK one problem after another my 125 is just not acting right first the PTO clutch then the charging system now I was out the other night blowing snow and it just died got off it was out of gas no big deal. So I thought 20 min later dies again this time I had to jump it. 15-20 min later dies again so I jump it once again Finnish blowing and park it tell I could take a look.so today I go out thinking its my sentiment bowl its clean I proceed to take the bowl of the carb once again clean. So at that point I'm like what the hell I took the carb apart cleaned the jets got it all back together mind you while I'm doing that I have my battery on a charger so I get that back on starts right up running a lot better to lol. But 20 min it to it running it dies so I start taking all the electrical apart and brushing all contacts and adding dialetric grease were need be. Get it all back together and the battery is dead I put a battery out of my wheel horse in there starts right up ran for 5 min and dies. Here is the kicker if I turn it off it starts back up if I let it die it kills the battery. It has never done this before. I have nothing extra hooked up to it either no lights nothing. PLEASE HELP SAVE MY CUB CADET BEFORE I TAKE MY AGGRESSION OUT ON IT WITH LARGE CALIBOR WEPONS AND STICK TO MY WHEEL HORSE.

It sounds like you have a short some where in the wiring.

My 102-D did that a few years ago and it turned out to be a failing V/R.
Switched it with another I had and no problems since!

Is there a way to test the V/R ? Or is easier to just replace it.

Voltage Regulators aren't cheap, and many people have found the replacements currently available difficult to wire into the existing harness (the terminals aren't in the same place, they're not labeled the same way, etc.)

The Chassis Service Manual for your tractor, part of the 1x4/5 Series, on page 1-30, states, "The contact points of a regulator will not operate indefinitely without some attention. A majority of regulator troubles can be eliminated by a simple cleaning of the contact points and slight adjustments." The Technical Library for Tractors on this site includes a link to the manual; http://ccmanuals.info/pdf/1x4-5%20Service%20Manual.pdf

The Service Manual called out above has instructions for cleaning and adjusting the voltage regulator, and I think other instructional sources can be found on the web. I downloaded the attached picture from somewhere, but forgot to note from whence it came.

I think it would be worth your while to open it up and check to see that none of the contacts are welded shut.

If you decide to replace it, be sure to identify all the terminals on both the old and the new part and match them up correctly. Roland Bedell has noted the P/N of both the original and replacement regulators for IH CC tractors in the Technical Library for Tractors on this site, and has included diagrams of each part as well as terminal legends --very helpful! (see http://www.onlycubcadets.net/forum/showthread.php?t=2)

Finally, Paul Funk has and interesting write-up on how he thinks a mechanical voltage regulator works which can be found in the How-To section of his CubCadetMan web site: http://www.cubcadetman.com/content/i...tor-&Itemid=53

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
