Question QA42 on a 147 questions?????

I got this tractor and thrower in a barter, and I'm missing a few parts to make these to properly work.

I need to find a front pulley setup for the drive, and can I change pulley size to get more rpm's out of the auger?

I'm missing the t handle for the chute adjustment, no biggie can just make that myself!

The lift bar from the thrower to lift attachment on the tractor.

I'm going to go through and clean it up replace what needs to be replaced and squirt some paint on it. I may upset a few people with how I paint it, but I look at it as i can just sand it down and repaint it if i sell it ever.

Another question is, what are some ways of getting more power out of the Kohler to really get some snow throwin going on?

mcarlson,
I worked on one of these ( see thread on here) but it hasn't thrown a flake of snow yet Still looks pretty good. I started it about this time last year. I kept mine stock. Yes these are not nearly as good as the two stages from what I have heard.
I did make a handle for turning the chute. These seem to get lost real easy. Good luck with the restoration.
Regards,
Chris

A single stage thrower works fine if you keep the engine at WOT and the auger full.

Hi Sam,
That was the half way point of a storm we got a couple years ago. The 125 and QA-42 worked great

Jeff,
Nice action shot of the thrower in action. Yep, looks to be doing the job.
Thanks for posting the snow picture.
I see you have chains and weights on the tractor too, I am sure those are pretty much standard when running one of these front heavy units.
Regards,
Chris

The single stage snow thrower works very well if used properly. WOT to maximize auger speed and enough forward speed to keep the auger filled with snow. ( hydro's have the advantage here ).

Since that picture was taken, I've upgraded to fluid filled tires and wheel weights ( plus chains are a must ). Some folks worry that the chains will mark up their blacktop but that only happens if you spin your tires excessively.

Jeff

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
