Default 2 questions about "Maude", my 129

1. I just received my brand new voltage regulator today. I know absolutely nothing about these things. Are they plug and play, or do they require some sort of adjustment prior to being operational ?
2. what is the process of getting to the transmission control lever friction bushing ? Mine is the style with the collar and diagonal cut, which fit inside the pressure clamp. I've studied it the last two days and I'm not quite sure how it disassembles to provide access to it.

Thanks for any replies on this and thanks for all the help in the past.

"Maude" has become quite the center of attention for my wrenching and tinkering as of late.

I don't think there's any initial adjustment, but a quick trip thru the service manual would verify that. :-)

Well, get behind "Maude", lightly slap her fender, and hang on... O sorry, this is the wrong website for that....

Wire the generator according to the service manual. Make sure it is well grounded. Also, you need to polarize it. I'm not sure which terminals you need to polarize, but it says in the service manual. All you do is take a short wire and very quickly touch the two terminals together with the wire. You will see spark. Make sure you have a battery in when you do this.

Default Friction Bushing Repair

ozarkarky: I replaced the bushing in my 149 this year and uttered a few choice words in the process --it is just difficult to get your hands in to it. Mine had been worked on before, and it was very difficult to get a wrench on it. I know wound up replacing the nut and bolt, and I had to spread the cast piece slightly.

In fact, although it wasn't strictly necessary, I remember getting the cast piece out in my hands. I would NOT recommend beating on it, as it is a fairly fragile part.

So, looking at the diagram in Parts Lookup, I un-bolted Item 16 in the inset P/N IH-545516-R1, Support, Control Rod for tractors Serial No. 425999 & below; mine had not been converted, just so I could get it apart. Then I could get to the clamp bolt.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
