Default Change Over
On my 126, I wanted to change over the conventional oil in the rearend with HyTran. Do I need to flush it out before refilling it with HyTran if it has been running oil or can I drain and just refill? What harm would it be if I refilled and there was some residue of oil in it? Besides better lubrication, can I expect any other benefits of this change over?

Make sure you get all of the oil out of the axle tubes. You could jack up one side at a time to get the oil out of the tubes. Replace the filter and you should be good to go.

Ok Duke, I have drained all of the oil out of the axle tubes and have put a new filter on it. I let it drain overnight, before installing the new filter....just trying to get all of the old oil out that I can before installing the HyTran. Can I expect any benefits from running HyTran, besides viscosity?

The hy-tran has better water displacement. It will provide better lubrication. Performance shouldn't change that much if any. Sorry about the filter change ideal.

No problem.....I actually liked that, all of us make mistakes and we need that just to sometimes realize we're human. My work is always way too serious and that was the break that I needed. Your advice is always so great anyway that we'll rib you about that for a while, but always look to you for future wisdom!

Duke's correct on the hytran.

Hytran is formulated to "absorb" water. As it pulls the moisture of out the fluid, it congeals and falls to the bottom. When you clean out your rearend case and there's a bunch of sludge in the bottom, that sludge is hytran that's absorbed water. They especially get moisture in the colder months. Cold case, warm oil, condensation. This is one of the main reasons hytran is recommended for use in our cubs.
