Default Information Requested

Hello All Cub Cadet Owners!

I am Nathan from Northern Wisconsin and I just picked up my first cub cadet and would like to get some more information about it.

It is a model 80, and definitely a barn find, but I am looking to get running, use a little and fully restore. I am not seeing a lot of posts about them, are they more rare? were they a flop when the 100's came out because of the success of the 70 and 72?

On a side note, I am going to look at a Cub Cadet CW-36 snow blower tomorrow and wanted to know if anyone has mounted one of these or may know if this may work on an 80?

I know I am rambling a little but last thing, it did not come with a mowing deck but I would like to find one. I keep looking on Craigslist and no avail with the 36" models, plenty of 42" but non existant 36".

Thank you for the great forums, I joined a camping forum when I bought my first camper and had nothing but success when finding information about care and use specifics.

Thanks,
Nathan

Hello, I believe the 80 is a wide frame. The 80 came wayyy after 100 and 70. The 80 was produced from like 76-79 whereas the 70/100 was made in 63-65. I own a CW-36 snow thrower and that was only for narrow frames, the 70, 100, 1x2/3, 1x4, 1x5 series.... I do not think it would fit without SERIOUS modifications like welding new brackets.

A model 80 is NOT a wide frame. It is a lawn tractor. They aren't real popular with the collectors. You'll probably be hard pressed to find a deck for one. Also the CW-36 won't work on your tractor because it's built for Garden tractors.

Thank you for the information, i have not been able to pull the serial number to run its year yet, but thank you for setting me straight.

Being a lawn tractor, does anyone know what attachment models (deck and snow blower) will fit on this model? Also being redone will it be worth anything or just be more sentimental value?

Thanks,
Nathan

I don't have a clue what attachments fit your tractor. As far as value, they just aren't worth much. The only lt with any value was the Spirit of '76. The gt's are cheap enough, that most people don't mess with these.

Congrats on the Cadet 80 find. I don't know if they are rare or not. The 80 is newer than the 70 and 100. I believe it came out in 1977 and used a Briggs and Stratton engine. They are called Lawn Tractors, not Garden tractors, and Cadets, not Cub Cadets. The Cadets have their own set of mowers, front blades, and snowthrowers specific to the Cadet. Hope you get her running.

Under edit: Guess I type to slow, LOL.

I did find it a little weird when I went to pick it up, that the hood was fiberglass and not metal. I suppose that was specific to the Cadet line?

We had a model 76 when I was young, pretty much the same except it was a gear shift. It was a good little tractor, cut alot of lawn with it.
Where about are you in WI?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
