A couple weeks ago it started ...stalling. Applying choke and cranking would get it started again.
Then it started to run only with the choke on. More and more stalls. So...a new carb kit. New Fuel lines, clean the gas tank, clean the sediment bowl/screen. Nada...same thing. It's definitely fuel related. The only other thing I can think of that I didnt check when I rebuilt the carb was the float setting. It almost seems like its running out of gas. When I give it a few seconds for the bowl to fill back up it runs fine. Oh...If I run the throttle LOW, it'll run pretty well (which coincides with the "running out of fuel" theory. Any other ideas, my IH brothers? John ![]()

My 125 was doing the.same exact thing. so I redid the carb as well. Out of anything to think of I decided to change the coil and condenssor it runs perfect now. If you have another tractor to rob the parts off of for testing purposes I would give it a shot. I just did it yesterday and now I can mow my entire yard which takes about 2 hours without it messing up once.

Do you have enough fuel in the tank? I was having problems on mine and realized it didn't have enough fuel in it....

I think you're on the right track, check your float level...sounds like the tab is bent too far up, not letting the needle come down far enough to fill the bowl.

I had a similar problem with my 125 when I first brought it home, it turned out that a small piece of the gasket for the sediment bowl broke loose, and floated up and wedged itself into the 90-degree bend right after the fuel shut-off. it would only let a few drops of fuel through at a time, so the carb bowl could never refill fast enough. check to see if anything is blocking the lines, from tank all the way to needle valve.

I'm with the points-and-condensor crew. My buddy's 125 is having the same issues, and we're going to change them out and see if that helps. Hoping to find burnt or pitted points or improper gap or maybe even oil-soaked point box. These Kohlers will run like doo-doo once the points go bad or get out of adjustment.

Could be oil soaked points... will look.
I had it running yesterday. If I keep the throttle at half - 2/3 there seems to be enough "headroom" that it continues to run even if the governor kicks in to give it more throttle. If I don't, it'll soon develop a flat sounding exhaust note, followed by a stall and one final backfire. Strange... John PS: It DOES need an overhaul...

John,
You should be able to make it run well even though it needs to be overhauled. I had that #1 169 with the 14hp running really well, even though it had bad rings and sat outside with no head for 10+ years. ![]() Keep us posted. I'm sure you'll get it.

Does the carb actually pull fuel from the sediment bowl, or is it just a place for the gunk to fall before entering the carb? For example, if fuel is not feeding well from the tank, would the sediment bowl be drained ?

It will not drain the sediment bowl no matter what, as the outlet of it is above the glass bowl.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
