Newbie 127 project
Hello all. Haven't posted too much because I'm new but I wanted to share some pictures of my latest project that I'm doing. I've done several vehicle and mower projects through the years (I wont say restorations because I have found out recently that the word means a lot more than I thought and these were no where near the detail that I've seen here!) but fixed up for myself or sold to make some extra money, etc. Call me crazy but now that I have a son, I really want to mow the grass with him on my lap and drink a beer and enjoy it. What better machine to get than a cub right?
I currently have a JD HD75 walk behind 54' deck with (sulky?) that I stand on and mow. I picked it up for free and rebuilt the right side hydro for 200 bucks and its been a good mower for a few years. Just have always wanted an older cub ever since I used to mow as a kid with a 982 and after seeing the throwaway stuff these days, I knew it was a good choice and I finally found one for a good price. So here are a few pics. My little buddy checking out his new tractor!   I originally was just going to take out the steering column because of the frozen steering wheel and no upper bearing left but i realized that after I got it running, the engine knocked bad and the PTO clutch was screwed up along with siezed set screws so I decided to go further.  I have a thread started in the engines section about my engine knock that I found to be a way out of tolerance crank journal thats .010" smaller than it should be. Just got the right puller from work so I can get the fan off to get the crank out.   Trying to figure out the year and with help I got on here I believe its a 1970 built in March/April? Please correct me if I'm wrong.  Engine numbers  Thanks for looking and any advice will be great since I am wanting to learn as much as I can, Alvy

Nice way to start your illness, did you know you soon will come down with yellow fever? Looks like a great project, with all thr oil on that deck, should be rust free. Looking forward to you progress

Please do not do that, Way too many horror stories about kids getting run over and killed or very badly injured from mowers.

ALVY I love my son and I love to drink Beer and I love my cubs BUT KIDS DRINKING AND MOWING DOES NOT MIX. Leave the little kids in the house while you mow . after your done mowing then set down enjoy your son while you drink a cool one .

I'm generally opposed to the invasive nannies of our gub'mint, but mowing with your kid on your lap is something we need to regulate ourselves on. The death of a child is what resulted in all the modern safety switches, of which your 127 has probably only 1.
Go ahead and restore that beauty, then wait till he's old enough to hand over yard mowing duties with it. Those will be memories for both of you, and he'll probably turn into an IH Cub man for life.

Great pics!
I want to see your updates and learn more about you and your 127, but as someone that knows a child that got ran over by a lawn mower please keep your son inside while you mow. If you want to drink a beer and mow have at it but don't risk your son's health over it. http://pediatrics.about.com/od/hidde...-accidents.htm Ok off my soap box.

Dad used to pull us behind his 125 when he was mowing in a cart/wagon when we were little. We never had a problem.
