I am starting to get into my 38 inch deck on my Model 70 and have some questions. The two outer pulleys really don't have much play in them. Can i get away with replacing the seals? One side had lot's of grease coming out. I think I need to rebuild the center spindle. It has a little wobble in it. Nothing bad, but too much for me. Should I replace the bearings and bushings, or do I need a whole new spindle?

I don't think the square end deck spindles are rebuildable. I believe you have to replace them. I think Diz cut one apart on here in a thread to show what they look like.

The cast end deck uses tapered roller bearings and is rebuildable. You are thinking of the ST-745 'water pump' bearings which are not.

Well, I have the pulleys off and spindles out but I can't remove the bearings. How do I remove the old grease seals without completely destroying them?
Are the bearings, races and seals available anywhere else but Cub Cadet? I thought I read something about NAPA parts being interchangeable. Thanks,

Well, I had to pry the seals out, which didn't really matter because they were trashed.
Here is a picture of the seals that were on the deck. There were two different kinds. One is the IH seal and I am not sure where the other one came from. Someone put the IH seal in upside down. Also have a picture of the bearing race. I cant get these out and I don't want to pound on them. How do you guys get these out? I don't have any kind of press to do it. The good thing is that the only pulley that was loose is the center one. All I have to do to the two end spindles is replace the seals. The races look pretty good on the center spindle, but the spindle has a lot of wear which was making it loose. Can I get away with replacing the spindle and not the bearings? The bearings are still nice and shiny.

I do it the old fashioned way with a hammer and a punch then press the new ones in.

The seals go in up side down, it allows old grease to be pumped out and keeps dirt out. Like I said I hammer the old races out but I like to press the new ones in. I have a press. Maybe you can have a machine shop do it for you.

So on the seals, the rubber side faces up?
I went ahead and removed the races. I'm going to replace them with a new bearing and race set I have. They look pretty bad and aren't real smooth anymore.

You got all the good out of those. Yep the seal goes in with the lip to the outside. I know it seems odd compared to wheel bearings but it works. Just keep it greased. If you put them in like a wheel bearing when you grease them it pushes the seal out of the bore
