I picked up this tiller for my cub from a local guy for twenty five. It's locked up. Thats why the cheap price. I am tearing it down and rebuilding it so being locked up doesn't mean much to me. I have checked all the locations for a tag to show me the model number but the guy repainted it and the tag is gone. I found one rivet that would have held it on but the other rivet is gone with the tag. I'm enclosing a bunch of pictures if anyone could give me a hint on what are the difference from a #1, #1a, #2, #2b that would be awesome.

Since the extensions are not built in it's either a 1 or 1A.

Great buy and looks to be in very good shape. Believe all generations as to rebuilding the same. 2 series had one piece tines (38") and chain adjustment bolt on the bottom - and primary shaft sprocket is welded not pined on. Shaft bearings - Primary 3/4 UC-204-12 2nd 1" UC-205-16 Tine shaft 1 1/4 UC-207-20 (around $22.00 for 3 VXB bearing). Sheer pin 2 -Fastenal #11121573. I also added a grease fitting to the relubable tine bearing retainer. Lift pin protrudes 3 3/4 " 1/2" hole 1in. from end. Bob

Nice tiller, and good price too. Looks like your right into it. usually bottom large bearings being toast is the reason they wont turn. Probably a 1 or 1A and I should know the difference but am currently to tired to think. Looks a lot like the one I did too which is a 1A I think.
Several good posts on tiller restorations on here. Doug did a great job on his unit. Regards, Chris

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
