Default 104 bottom clutch shield

My bottom clutch shield is MIA. Does anyone know the dimensions? I had a flat piece of thin steel all ready, but now I think the steering drag link needs a cutout to pass thru. Any thoughts ? Thanks in advance, Chris

I'am at the same cross roads. Though, I did once have the lower clutch shield for my 72. But once the battery fell through the inner fender well of my old car, I used it in a pinch and have since be rid of the car.

As I rember it, the cut out was for the rockshaft operations, I believe. If I dont find a original shield , I plan to use aluminum diamond plate and secure through the 4 holes in the frame.

Well, this answers "what are those 4 self tap holes for in the bottom of the chassis?"

I'll be interested in those dimensions too to replace the shield on a 104.

Default bottom clutch shield

@ save old iron, I looked at Cub cadet parts look up, under hood,grill, frame ;there is a drawing of shield (#22) with a rectangle cutout that appears to be for the steering lever to pass thru. What do you think? From the rust marks on the bottom of my frame, the dimensions appear to be 8 1/2 inches square. Now to figure where to locate the cutout. Hopefully someone in the know will chime in. Chris

I don't use them. It restricts the flow of air going into the engine too much.

And collects dirt and grass and junk, too. I've not used them either.

Your quite welcome, sir! I believe the shields are a tad thicker than the hood sheet steel.

IH had incorporated the shield for a many reason. To go directly against Merk, and Matt, I thought the weeds could have { 1 } been prevented wrapping around the drive shaft when in the tall grass of the fields { 2 } and could provide excellent protection when in the woods getting fire wood.

I plan to use mine when the 72 restore is completed. I dont think its too awfull hard to keep clean of trash. Over heating could be argued, though I dont see any losers there.

Now you got me thinking about the steering interfearence. I plan to check this again, but pretty sure the slot on the right of the shield is for rockshaft operations { sitting on the tractor looking down } . So there you have it, the two sides of the street!

I plan to make one soon. Its as easy as using cardboard for a template. Hopefully a member here can lend a hand.
