Stopped at the local CC shop today and they sold me an Oregon hydro filter. It is stamped that it is a replacment for the CC #723-3014, JD #AM39653 and MTD #727-0162.
I took off a Fram PH16 from the Cub Cadet Model 129 built in 1973. The Oregon filter will not screw onto the threaded hydro post. I checked the take off Fram filter and the Oregon filter center hole diameters and they seem to be the same. I wonder if they cut it with the wrong thread size ?? Anyone know what the issue may be? Is there a different hydro filter size for the earlier models? I looked on the Oregon website to get the specifications for hole size and thread with no luck. Thanks for any info, Kurt

Thanks Roland,
Yes, I have the chart. I recently acquired the 129 and the PH16 was on it. The Fram website cross references the PH2844 as a recommended alternative to the IH 723-3014. The main difference between the PH16 and the PH2844 is that the PH16 has an anti drain valve. Not sure what the ramifications are for having an anti drain valve on a hydro filter. Kurt

The anti-drainback valve filters (NAPA part #1084) can be used on the Sunstrand pumps but if you have the Cyclops and up go with the NAPA 1410 or Wix 51410. The 1410 & 51410 can be used on either type of pump. If you have an older machine with the Sunstrand pump the 1084 filter will not let the oil drain out of it when not running.

Figured it out.
The size and thread of the center hole is correct but the threads were not cut very clean. Ran a tap through the hole and it still wouldn't go on. The beginning of the thread was double cut and I just couldn't get it started on the shaft. Bought the NAPA 1410 and it worked fine. Yep, weird. Kurt

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
