Default I need help guys, Id engine.

I saved this crapsman mower from the scrapper the other day, I only wanted the motor. At first sight, I thought it was a series 2 but after some reading I think it might be a series 1 or is there something completely different for craftsman? Could you guys help me Id the engine? What is the difference between a 1 and a 2? Thanks guys!

I can see the tag in the photo. If you could post the serial number and model number it would help. I believe if it has points it is a series ! most likely, If it has an oil filter on the right side it is definitely a series 2. No filter doesn't mean it isn't.
If it runs, ok, doesn't make a lot of difference. I have read there are several more differences. Seems like they had different sized head bolts. I believe someone else might be able to steer you better.

That is a Magnum, which I believe is neither I or II.

That is the same engine I have in a 1872

Ok, spec number is 24665, serial number is 211242386 and the model number was long gone. the engine does have an oil filter.
CAD, that is what I am starting to think, Thanks.

Sticker on the side panel says Kohler Magnum 18? It looks to me like it says 18. Also, a KT-17 would have points and a coil where a Magnum does not. If it's a 20, that's a sweet score. Either way, I guess, it's a sweet score.

Sweet score, nonetheless. I wonder if the crankshaft is the same as the cubs.

If its 1" shaft and you have a clutch with a 1.125" bore it's an easy fix. You just get a 1" ID X 1.125" OD bushing and some 1/4"X 5/16" key stock. McMaster Carr http://www.mcmaster.com part number 6381K18 for the bushing and 98491A137 for the key stock. Just did it on a tractor I was working on. Had to run a brake cylinder hone through the bore because it was a little on the tight side and also had to run some emery paper over the outside because it was also a little tight for the clutch bore. Then you just cut it to length and cut a slot for the keyway.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
