Hey guys,
I picked up this rear end from a friend of mine as a spare to put in while i rebuild the one in my 1250 or 1650. Only difference I have noticed is the little push pin that disengages the rear drive. on both my 1250 and 1650, there r two push pins and on the replacement, there is only one with the other being non existent as you can see. Any ideas?? Mainly i want to make sure that something is not amiss and i can use it as a replacement rearend... |

Looks like the PO replaced one of the relief valves. The ones with push pins are manual releif valves, push them in to manually move the tractor. The one without the push pin is an automatic relief valve so you can push the tractor without having to do anything. Theres nothing missing or wrong so you can use it as a replacement no problem.

Thanks man, just had me concerned as that was the only difference i could find and didn't know how that would work with the little piece of sheet metal on the disengage lever as it is made to push down on two of the relief valves. thanks!

It's hard to tell but it looks like the manual valve has some hydro fluid weeping from the pin and the pin is pushed down, it should be up. You may have to replace that valve. If so I would put another auto valve in it's place.

Guys,
I have lot to learn about Hydros. Great pictures of the difference between the auto valve and the manual pop up type valve on the top of the unit. Q: Can a un-ported Hydro be drilled and tapped to be a ported hydro? This is where you get the fluid for the power steering valve right? If it can be ported does any one have the dimensions of the port locations? Regards, Chris

Concur that the manual valve looks to be leaking and at the end of service. Looks to have been leaking long enough to soften the paint off. DX3 is right, put another auto on and remove the release lever tab if it's still in there.
Make sure you clean out the galley surrounding the old valve before you pull it out, you don't want to knock a bunch of dirt down into your pump. I would also consider stripping the paint off the aluminum fins of the hydro for better cooling. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
