Default IH 782- Bad motor

Hello all,
A friend of mines neighbor is selling an Red IH 782 with a bad engine. He said it was a regular mower before the rod left go. My question is it worth rebuilding the engine? Not sure if it is a series 1 or 2. He is asking $350 for the tractor with a good hydro but no deck and bad engine. Also has hub caps. I guess I am asking if its worth the money and time. I would hate to pass up on it if it is worth his asking price. Any help or info?
No pictures yet as I haven't got there to see it and the owner is not computer savey.

You could always repower it with a M18.

Yeah I was curious about that listing too. See what shape the tractor is in. Does it have all the side panels? Is it REALLY an IH-built 782? Does it still have the mule drive? Grille? Working lights? A clean hydraulic lift system? The hubcaps alone could be worth north of $200 if they are in nice shape with the IH logo. Cast-iron rear with disc brakes is nice to have for a stand-by as well. You have to see it to know what you're dealing with. My CCC red 782 has better than 1600 hrs on it and is on it's 3rd Series II, but it's the best-driving Cub I have right now. M-18 repower could be big $$ and a good used Series II ain't cheap, either.

Go take a look and see what the particulars are...

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
