Default Cub Cadet 128 project

So, I picked this Cub Cadet 128 up off of a guy on Craigslist for $150.

Came with two sets of turf tires on wheels, a single ag tire on wheel, Hydro transaxle (going to get a 3 speed), home made drive shaft, and a K301 that is on stock bore and stroke, but doesn't seem to be from a cub as there is no drive hub, and the starter connects with a belt to the flywheel.

Ive got some pics to post up and some questions coming soon...

If the tins on the motor are OEM, it is a 12hp engine made in 1967. Can't help with much else on the motor.

ok, cool thanks, so do I need to buy a pto clutch for the pto side? im not going to put any attachments on it, its going to be for stock class pulling.

So anybody know where I can get a cheap drive hub and drive shaft/clutch setup for a 128?

If your going to pull it, you won't need a PTO.

Place a want add in our Wanted section and or also give our Sponsors listed at the top of each page a call with your needs.

I measured my bore and it is at 3.376" or 85.7504 mm, and I was going to get a new piston and rod but they don't look bad at all there was barely any carbon build up? but I do want to replace the rings just for good measures.

So can I just use a balled flex hone to get some cross hatches on the wall, or should I spend the extra money and get a new piston and bore it .010 over?

First off the k301 is the best 12 horse you can buy because you can bore a lot off the cylinder walls

Should not a 128 be gear driven to start with? Also why is the starter pulley on the flywheel side?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
