Default My 102

here's my cub project- a 102, according to the serial number, was built in August of '66. got it for free in may of '07, been working on it off and on since then, and am about to put around $150 into it to get engine and driveline parts. as far as i can figure, when i got it, it was missing the air cleaner, carb, starter/generator, coil, ignition switch, headlights, entire driveline, gas tank, and steering system. I got an air cleaner off ebay, and am about to order a carburetor, complete driveline, and gasket set from Cub Cadet Classics. now some pics:
5/28/07, the day me and my dad brought it home

now pretty much all except the outside of the hood is primered, and the engine needs rebuilt, and then it'll be ready to paint. I have a special plan in store for this, will fill y'all in on that later.

Great job ff6cav!

I love to see vintage Cub Cadet iron resurrected from near death and it looks like this baby might have been headed that way!

We will look foward to more pictures along the journey.

alrighty, I'm gonna try to explain the plan I have for this. I'm gonna try to make it a mini version of the new tanker from one of my fire departments... right now, the plan is to make a dual axle trailer with a 55 gallon drum for the tank, and a small electric water pump. It would be used in parades and whatnot, and just as a fun thing to play with. I know its not even close to original, but I'll probably end up getting another one (or 2 or 3) along the line to restore back to original. a pic of the tanker:

Thumbs up Wow!!!

Now that's a project!!! A tanker, huh? Interesting use of your cub. I definitely want to see pics on that one. I really like the idea and the fact that it will be used in parades will add to the versatility of the cubs!! I remember seeing Shriner's on cubs in a parade in my hometown when I was a little boy---they looked like they were having fun on some really neat machines. Maybe that helped spark my appreciation for these fine machines! Who knows, maybe you'll inspire a new generation of cub enthusiasts!! Here's to your successful completion of your project!

I looked at the parts you got, and I do not see two very important pieces to the puzzle.

First is the drive plate ( I may be calling it by the wrong name.) that bolts to the drive cup on the flywheel side of your engine with 4 1/4 /20 bolts. IT is a disc about 6-8 inches diameter with three pins sticking out of it to engage the three holes you see in your clutch plate. It also has a nice brnze bushing for the driveshaft to ride in and center.

Second, do you have the bracket that hangs the clutch lever in your frame? It goes across the top of the chassis, and has a place for the clutch lever to pivot on.

You seem to have the rear coupler for your driveshaft, just needs a coil pin to attach it to your tranny input shaft as long as it is he proper length. You also have the linkage piece to hook to your clutch/brake pedal cross shaft.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
