hey guys. Ever since I started cutting with my 1450 I have had problems with it scalping. I have a small yard and every time I turn left I end up with ridges of grass that are too tall. I also have a few small hills that get scalped pretty bad. I have the early 50" deck with no front deck wheels. I notice a lot of the newer decks I see have front and rear wheels so I thought about adding a set of front wheels to mine.
I found a kit on amazon that is sold by MTD and meant to be add on rear deck wheels for some of their newer tractors. http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...00_i00_details The brackets included are really beefy and the rollers and hardware are of good quality too. I had to put the bracket I used on the discharge side in my bench vise and bend it a little to make it fit. The other side needed no mods. Other than that I just drilled some mounting holes in the deck and bolted them on. ![]() ![]() I will be testing this setup out in a little bit here. Hoping to see my whole yard cut at the same height, fingers crossed!

Thanks Allen. I can say that the rollers definitely evened out my cut quite a bit especially when mowing on the hills and turning. There are still a couple spots in my yard where I cut shorter than the rest but that is just how the land is.

You would been better off welding the brackets to the front of the mower deck. The right side might be ok, but the left will keep you from getting close to objects(trees or buildings, etc.)

I lost just over an inch on the left side which does limit how close you can trim in next to something. It did not seem to matter on my yard though. If I did it all over I would want to bring the brackets in towards the middle of the deck some. Still, the improvement in cut quality was well worth the 40 bucks and time spent installing them to me.

Thats a great idea because I noticed the same with my 102 42" deck that it can scalp/gouge the lawn. Like brentwd said I would want to move the left side roller in because of how far it sticks out, but still great idea.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
