What would be the process for changing fluid? I'm still kinda new to these Cubs. Usually they don't need much work. Is there a drain plug? Where do you refill? Is there a dipstick? I bought the proper filter and fluid. I've never changed it yet so I thought this weekend would be good.

You need to remove the rear cover to drain the oil. So you need to get that rear cover gasket before you start. You can really get in there and wipe it out good with the cover off. Some are worse than others but they all seem to have a little gunk in them. ![]() The plug in the rear cover is where you refill, That is the level you fill to also. Just keep filling till its at the bottom of the hole. Also, be sure to get the correct hydro fluid filter and change it too!! |

There is no drain plug, and no dipstick.
First, go buy a gasket for the cover on the rear end and a new hydro filter. Remove the cover (with a drain pan already in place). Wash out all the nasty crud inside the housing. Bolt the cover, gasket AND HITCH back on, and do not use ANY GASKET SEALER OF ANY KIND. Fill the transaxle through the hole in the cover where the plug is, until the fluid starts to run back out. Drive the machine around for a few minutes (forward and reverse) shut it back off and check fluid level again, top it off to the point where it starts to run out the fill hole as before. MOST IMPORTANTLY... the three bolts in the bottom three holes of the cover are longer than the rest, as they also go through the hitch. DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT, put these bolts into holes other than the three bottom ones and put the hitch back in place when you put the cover back on. IF you do not put the hitch back on, OR if you use the longer bolts in the wrong holes, I promise you will HATE yourself in the morning!!! |

Does anybody Know of a place to get gasket without going to the dealer? I don't have one close. Ebay has one in a kit for about $20.

The Last gasket I bought from the dealer was in late 07 and it was $4.99
