Hello all. I got a 1650 that I am getting frustrated with. I put a new battery in it last Saturday and went out today to start it, 6 days later it was very slow turning over and would not start. Pulled battery and put on charger and charger showed only about 25%. So I know it is getting a draw on the battery when it is sitting.
Can any of you give me a hint where to look, lights (were off and don't work) or somewhere that may be drawing off the battery when shut off?!?! Thanks, I am stumped! Doesn't seem like there should be anything pulling a draw off of the battery. Thanks again!! John |

After you installed the new battery last week, did you use the mower at all, or just let it sit, then tried to start it lately?
If you have used it, are you certain that the stator is charging and that the mower is not just running off of the battery, in turn running the battery down?

Yes I used the tractor for a little bit but not long... about 15 minutes maybe after installing my snow thrower on it and then parked it.
Never thought about the stator but 15 min or so? Thanks for input!! |

FWIW, I learned the hard way that when I run my tractors at less than full throttle and/or am constantly starting and stopping, it doesn't take much to kill my batteries. Add cold weather to that and the problem gets worse.
What I do now is run full throttle - to max the charge and in this cold weather where I'm using a tractor to fetch a trailer of firewood, I just leave it running, not unlike one would a diesel. I burn more gas - but that's better than wrestling with a dead battery. I also figured out that I need something more than a 300ish CCA battery. I get a battery from Autozone that is something on the order of 425 CCA and that's great battery. Don't know if any of the above describes your situation, but just a thought. Good luck, Bill |

New batteries off the self do not necessary have a full charge. I ALWAYS charge up a new battery before use.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
