Talking My 128!!!

This is my 1972 Cub cadet 128. it has external disk brakes and no creeper. I was wondering what I should do about the rusted battery tray? Also was wondering if the clutch cover was correct for the model?

IACubCadet, yes, it came with a K301A engine that was worn out along with one other K301A in the same condition. Been thinking about rebuilding one of them, but not sure yet. CADplans, thanks! I was wondering what they look like. Also wondering if anyone knows how to get the rusted foot rest pads off?

If you have a welder handy, spot you some hexnuts on top of the trusshead screws. If you dont you can take a cut-off wheel and deepen the slots so you have more meat to get a grip on.(no pun intended)

Youll like the 128. They are a very handy tractor. Really easy to work on.

Daniel, if you have a welder you can tack a piece of round bar (about the size of an old Cub driveshaft) onto the top of the frozen foot pad screws. This will give you tons of leverage to back them out. Spray PB Blaster in the screw areas (you can spray them from below too) for a few days beforehand, and make sure you clean up the bar and bolt head before welding.

Mine came off with just PB Blaster and a hefty flat bladed screw driver aided by a wrench for more torque.

Those are easy to remove with either an impact screwdriver or by heating the nut plates on the back dull red with an oxyacetylene torch.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
