Ok, my 126 runs fine, but when I power up with my deck under load and run WOT it sputters and coughs. I have rebuilt the carb twice and adjusted the carb (2 on fuel inlet and 2 1/4 on air inlet).....with small adjustments ranging from 2 1/2 on fuel and 2-2 1/2 on air inlet, but nothing seems to help--so, can anyone offer some help? Thanks in advance!

When it sputter/coughs does it have any black smoke? Is the air cleaner good? If its old and looks good it still could be bad. I had one once that did that. The air cleaner looked fine but ran like crap with it. Messed with everything and was driving me nuts. Tried running it without the filter and it was fine. Just a guess.

It has a new plug, new filter and new gas. I put a brand new petcock in the tank with a pre-screen filter on it. I was just thinking that it sounds like a stuck float problem to me, but I have 101 guesses going through my mind! Anyone ever had a stuck float issue that behaved this way?

Check your governor, see if it is adjusted correctly. Might check the timing. Is the fuel flow from the tank to the carb good or might there be an obstruction? Is the throttle shaft tight or does it have a lot of wiggle back and forth? Just some things off the top of my head.

If it was stuck it would leak when its off. Unless is adjusted wrong maybe? I would think there "might" be a fine line in adjustment where it wont leak when its off but it will give it to much when running? Maybe not, not sure on that?

I rebuilt the carb for the 3rd time tonight. Had some dirt in the bowl, so I put a fuel filter on it, along with the pet cock pre-filter in the tank. Runs great now, but the filter is a little two large and the hood traps it against the throttle body, which causes the throttle to stick. I have an extra sediment bowl lying around with new gaskets and screen, but didn't have time to put it on. Anyway, its purring like a kitten and running so much better. BTW: I had to leave it outside all night, which is supposed to be the first time it has spent the night under the stars since it was new in '72 ....according to the previous owner.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
