I recently picked up a 149 which came with a bad motor, but the deal included a 16 hp magnum...It has a fuel pump, and a ignition switch setup that will also need to go, and was mounted to a huge leaf blower thing.. It has the wide base, not the cub style base..
I set it into my 1250 chassis and it looks like I should be able to mount it solidly, not Iso mount it.. If I want to iso mount it I will have to adapt the stock 1250 pan to it, and it looks as if that will reduce oil capacity a BUNCH... So.. other than the transmission of all that awful vibration to the chassis ![]() Tractor is destined for use as a loader tractor and utility use..not going to use it to mow with, as the loader pump will probably go right where the PTO clutch would have been. Flame away! ![]()

A loader doesn't need very much power. Putting a 16 in front of that is kind of a waste, in my opinion. Pulling stuff around doesn't take much power, either. You'll run out of traction LONG before you run out of power. I'd save the 16 for something requiring more power.

There are different configurations of 16 hp Mags. Some can be modifed to fit the Quietline oil pan with some work. Others take a major modification. I have one that I have looked at over the years to install in a Quietline but it looks like more trouble than it is worth.
If you mount it using the wide base directly to the frame the drive shaft will probably be at a angle that will require a different type of universal joint. |

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
