I have been looking on eBay to find a starter for the starter upgrade. There are so many models, 9 tooth, 11 tooth, CCW, etc. plus multiple models to fit different tractors. Does anyone have starter model that positively worked for the upgrade? I really don't want to buy one and then have to return.exchange it.

I have just checked on the status of my starters (I ordered 2, one for the 782D and one for the 1572), and they are scheduled for delivery today by the end of day.
I was also thinking about performing the glow-plug upgrade. Since the starter has the extra wire coming off of it for power, could I just use this power to run another Ford-type starter solenoid to light the glow plugs at the same time the start is engaged? I could just use the signal for the start solenoid for that matter. What do you think? I know that it would be un-needed then the engine is hot or in warm weather.

Even in warm weather, you'll want the glow plugs to warm unless the engine is already hot. I would think you would drain the battery down and wear out the starter if you were to let the glow plugs warm only when the starter is engaged.

Yes even with the upgrades, that starting procedure needs to remain the same.

The procedure remains the same, the time required for the glow plugs is shorter. My 782D went from needing about 25 seconds to needing 5-8 after the modification.
If someone wants me to draw a modified 782D wiring diagram for the glow plug mod, I can probably do that. |

I would think you wouldn't want to energize the starter and the glow plugs at the same time and place that heavy of a load on the battery. Heat the plugs then energize the starter.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
