I need to replace the drive belt from the tractor to the 48" mower deck on my 1863. I have looked everywhere - including in the manual - and nowhere can I find a diagram showing how/where to do this correctly! I've found a schematic for the deck belt, but that's not what I need right now. I know I can do this myself if I just have a "map". Can anyone direct me to where I can find such a diagram/schematic? Thanks!

Maybe I'm not wording my question correctly. My 1863 has a mower deck with a deck belt and another belt (drive belt?) which connects with two vertical pulleys in the front of the tractor, up through where the motor is and then to the deck. I'm not sure if this is a driveshaft or not - please forgive my ignorance. I need the map/diagram/ schematics for how to replace the belt that goes on the front pulleys, etc., which I cannot find anywhere. If it helps, the belt part I am talking about is 954-3001. Thanks for any help!

Oh gosh - sorry about putting it in the wrong section! Thanks for moving it! Mule drive? uh-oh . . . now I'm lost. At least I have a "start" - no pun intended. I will start at the PTO (at least I understand what that means now!) and go from there. Maybe I will search "mule drive" and maybe I'll come up with something. I would still love some kind of picture/diagram if anyone knows where I can find one, but thank you.

Your mule drive is the two front pulleys in the front under your pto. No way you can miss them. |

Okay, still need a little help here. I got the belt on the big pulley in front, and then on the two mule pulleys . . . . how the HECK do I get the dang thing to s-t-r-e-t-c-h over the pulley on the deck? Seriously here! What's the trick? Also, I thought maybe I would lower the deck to maybe help put it on (I raised it up the whole way when I mowed last), but now the raise/lower lever does nothing. Now what did I do? Please help!

Okay, I think I did that . . . the one pulley has a "crank" type tension and I believe it's all the way towards the deck as far as it will go, and the other one has a bar with notches and I have it at the furthest (so the pulley is closest to the deck) as it will go. Is there any other place to adjust the mule drive pulleys? I hope I don't have to remove the deck to do this - I can get it off, but I just cannot balance and push it back on by myself! Any thoughts on the raise/lower mechanism for the deck? Yikes - something's gotta give here, I cannot buy a break with this dang tractor! Thanks again for your help!

It sounds like you've got the mule drive right. You shouldn't have to remove the deck. Double check and make sure you've got the right belt. Check it against the old belt to make sure. Starting it on the pulley and turning hte bulley and belt is the only way I know how to do it.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
