So far, I cannot find any reason why I cannot outfit the 982 with power steering. I have the dual spool valve from an 1872 already. A column and a cylinder is all I need to complete the process....oh....and IH Red paint!

Yes you can use the column and other parts required from a 1872/2072/1772.

You also need the steering knuckle for the left spindle and the lines from the hydro.

Ooooh...the knuckle may be a tough one for me to obtain (not that grabbing the other stuff off eBay is easy or cheap)..... Any suggestions?

Cylinder, cylinder mount, spindle is different, and you'll need the clamp on knuckle/lever, hydraulic lines (they are different) and hydraulic 'T' inline. Last steering valve from a 2072 sold on ebay for $336. All parts may run you about $600. Bare in mind you have no garauntee that the used valve will not be a leaker.
FWIW your dual spool has nothing to do with steering, nice feature though. I could give a link here to a custom steering thread. Please PM me if your interested, Scott |

The spool was sold by the same guy and came off the same tractor. Maybe I should be happy with just an extra set of hydraulic outlets...... I know of the thread to which you speak.

I'd keep an eye out for a junked super with a blown engine or no engine and maybe you get it the whole thing for a decent price.

I bet if you rebuilt your steering column and tore apart the front axle, cleaned it, and greased it, you wouldn't think twice about powersteering. I did all of that to my 982 and it steers just as easy as any lawn tractor I've ever owned.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
