Default 1864 pto won`t stay engaged ?

I recently Purchased this tractor with a blown Head Gasket, that i replaced. But the next issue is the Pto will not stay engaged.If i hold the switch up the mower runs great. I first tried a new switch, but no cigar.Battery is new. Pto is getting between 12.7 and 12.9 volts when engaged but when i release switch it dis-engages. There is no wiring to rear, it was all cut in the tunnel. I tried another 5 pin relay still the same. I set the air gap to .015 and it still will not stay engaged. I`m sure the problem is something very simple to repair but am i missing something? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

Your problem with the PTO could be one or more of these things:
* Bad Reverse Relay
* Bad Reverse Switch
* Bad Seat Switch
* PTO Switch

Default 1864 pto update

Since i tried or bypassed all of these potential causes and since the previous owner got overzealous with his wire dykes. I was at wits end checking wiring or bypassing switches, relays and checking voltage to pto coil and adjusting air gap as well and PTO still would not stay engaged after releasing switch. I did what any other Red Blooded Mopar/Cub Cadet man would do and that is to run an inline barrel Fuse from the purple wire at the PTO switch to one of the red and white wires on the back up relay. And now it works only with key on and as soon as switch hits the center position. Just got done Mowing with it.

Cool

My 1330 did the same thing until I replaced the PTO switch but getting back in service any way you can is the objective. Us MOPAR men can be real crafty sometimes out of naccessity ( 1977 Power Wagon ).

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
