what William said.... Also try to see if you can turn it by hand, it may or may not be rusted up... If it's been used recently then it should turn easily. Look for chipped or missing knives. The parts diagram on that link William posted should give you a pretty good idea of all the parts to look for.

I'm still pretty much confused as to what model sickle will fit on what model cub. On the Haban users group on Yahoo you see quite a few different models mounted up. Supposedly the 402-D is NF, 402-E is WF... There's also an A, C... don't know about a B.

If you go here - http://ccmanuals.info/pdf/ that takes you to the root folder with some other haban manuals and manuals for basically anything CC.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
