Hi folks,
I'm brand new here. I just got a 680 that the PO had for over a decade. It was running fine when I got it and I believe I may broken something on it. I got it stuck in the mud and rode it pretty hard trying to get it out. Spinning the tires and such. It ran fine the whole time. When I went to start it a few days later, nothing. I did some poking around on here and have come up w/ a few possible problems. I have already looked at the fuses I could find and they are OK. But if some one can tell me how to find a wiring diagram I would be really grateful. The ignition switch: can any one tell me how to test this? The brake safety switch: Is there a way to bypass this for testing purposes? The solenoid: I read about testing the solenoid w/ a 12v test light if it clicks. But I do not believe that it is clicking when the key is turned. I have connected the -&+ posts w/ a screwdriver (key on) and get only a faint spark w/ no other results. This was after a fresh charge from my local auto store. Any thoughts on what I should do here? Thanks, Mike. |

I would bet that you pulled one of the wires off to the brake pedal switch. Look up underneath the tractor and follow the brake pedal movement. There should be a flapper that activated a button switch. Make sure the flapper is still there and make sure that both wires are on the switch. You can put a jumper wire between the wires to see if that is you problem. The only other thing to check is to make sure you didn't accidentally flip the pto switch on. That would cause your problems too.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
