Okay, tomorrow will be the test day for the engine. I got it all wired up tonight.

Couple things, is there a way to repair the head for the spark plug, it is stripped out from sitting there 25 years, it just deteriorated when I took it out.

Also, do they make a smaller coil for the 7HP's engines? There is no way in heck I am going to get the bracket in both holes in the engine shroud and put the coil in it, It just isn't happening. Maybe there is a smaller bracket maybe?

You should be able to pick up a spark plug thread repair kit at an auto parts store. They are similar to a heli-coil.

I have a smaller coil for my 100 than my 125. I could never figure out why the bracket didn't fit the holes. Smaller coil fixed it. For a while, I ran with just one bolt into the shroud, and put a longer tightener bolt across the coil bracket holes (that pretty plain, huh? )

Well, I cant seem to get it to run. I am not sure why, I have spark at the points and the spark plug, and I shot 1 squirt into the carb with Starting fluid, but no luck. She will not fire. I am not sure why however....

I would like to try to find a smaller coil. I have the 1 bolt in it now and it is working for the time being, but not for long term..

I use an empty gear oil bottle with a pin size hole in the tip to squirt some gas into the carb throat to get them going. I hate using starting fluid.

Did you put your thumb over the spark hole to see if it had any compression.

It seems like it has compression, it is hard turning over by hand I know that.

Did you do a compression test with a gage? Is the timing in the ball park?

It may turn hard with pulleys and clutch having 25 years of rust. With spark and gas and no go I'm thinking compression.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
