Congratulations on your newest addition! The seat on that appears to be from a wheel horse or sears (?). When you get the correct O one, don't discard that seat--it's a lot more comfortable and still worth some $$. Also, go to Portland's Small Engine show if you want one of those backrest. I see them all of the time up there!!! Most of the time, the collectors have purchased them, but they will part with them if the price is right. I found the correct O blade undercarriage there this past fall and bought it that way since I've been looking for one since 2009. Also, that deck should be on it if you plan on showing it! It's in great shape and would have been the way that it would have sold originally, in most cases. The decks seem to be more difficult to get--especially in that good of shape--and show it if you've got it! Cub Cadet 123

the guy tells me the deck is new / never used...
I thought the decks were sold separately. all the old adds say ( buy a new Cadet and get the deck free . this month only) something like that.......

Like most hobbies, collecting/restoring garden tractors (and probably ESPECIALLY garden tractors) makes little financial sense. I think we probably all know car guys in our neighborhood...likewise gun guys, or maybe even tool collectors. But garden tractors? We know them thru forums, but we're not exactly on every street corner. If you think about how much enjoyment we get from these old rusty pieces of iron and steel, the different between 200 and 400 dollars becomes minor. How many times do you look at something...anything.... that you have that you really enjoy and say "darn I paid two hundred dollars too much for this!". I bet not nearly as often as the times you recall "I let that one slip away because I was reluctant to spend the extra $200". For sure that's the way I am. Anyway... it's a hobby, not a retirement plan. If it's enjoyable, therapeutic, relaxing and rewarding, a couple hundred dollars either way is down in the noise. Likewise, if you're willing to not be in a hurry, parts for cubs are available thru forums, ebay and advertisers at very nominal prices. I bought a couple of boxes of transmission guts for my O's for less than $30 each off of ebay, enough to do 2 tractors worth, so even major overhauls can be done fairly economically if you're patient. To hack an old phrase "enjoyment is remembered long after the cost is forgotten. John ![]()

I really didnt mean to start a price war. I should of just keeped my yap shut.
ihcc104 has a good looking 0 didnt say it wasnt. it just looks to need some correct parts to make it (to me) worth 300.00 ihcc104 if I offended you and your cub . Im sorry. that was not my intent. sometimes reading word on a page , get read diffrent by people. I was just stating my point , people are nuts to ask big $$$ for rust.

Yeah, no worries! It's all good. I know I have overpaid for some of mine (particularly the first one!) but I still get a lot of enjoyment from them and it's not the end of the world either way. Location plays a HUGE amount in the cost and availability too.
I've gotten a couple really good deals too, so I suspect it all evens out :-) HNY to all! John

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
