Thanks Darkminion, that did it.
![]() I got rid of those washers. The only thing holding the pulley on now is a flat washer on top and the zerk bolt. It spins freely when tightened down and I have the deck on the tractor again! Last question and then I have some cutting to do.... do I need a lock washer in addition to the flat white washer under the zerk bolt? As for the additional hardware, the only thing I can think off is they were added to compensate for the worn pulley. The notch on that pulley was worn out and maybe the guy needed those extra washers to keep it as tight as possible? |

This is how mine exist. The pulley sits directly on the shoulder of the spindle. However, I have had some where I added a thin washer there to raise the pulley because the pulley was rubbing the deck or the bolt heads that hold the spindle housing to the deck. No lock washer on the zerk bolt although I don't know what it would hurt.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
