I was told this also. If anything my buddy told me to at least sand the rust & primer it. Makes sence? DUNNNNNNO?

Jay , your painting looks like it came out nice , you had a nice warm day for it.
Hey , did you try to get your paint from a IH-Case dealer in Somerville NJ .
Reason I ask a few weeks back I called them and said I was the second guy to call in the last week about Cub Cadet paint . They were pretty short with me and said they don't carry paint for cub cadets.

Yes I qctually did call them. They were kinda rude. I bought some yellow at a local spot and some other at depot. Appliance epoxy almond from rustoleinum is a darn close match to the white on my 127. It's almost exact and is less than 5 nix a can. It also goes on thick and does not run. I got some pretty even coats with no runs on the rims and the seat pan.

In another post I asked if anyone used that epoxy spray paint. NO REPLIES, your the first, I also am using it to paint my gas tank. My # 122 is devoid of paint & it's yeller. My # 109 tank is Cub white, so i'm going to paint both tanks with the epoxy paint. Who is going to tell me that hey, the tank color on the # 122 should be yeller?
I'm doing this because of past posts & the comments made about newly painted gas tanks & the problems of having gas dripped & spilled on fresh paint.

Nik,

Nik,

That paint works well. If you go to their website it says that if you have bare metal that you should use primer that's what I did I used a automotive primer and the paint covered well. I also put some auto body heat lamps on It for a few hours but the parts I did not do that to took about 48 hours to cure good. You will probably want to wait at least a week before using the gas tank. I also painted a piece of metal that once the 1 week recommended dry time before recoat time is up I am going to try and clear coat and see how that works too.

Nik,

Nik , there is a whole thread devoted to rattle can spray paint . In the restoration tips section . I could not find Epoxy paint in Yeller , but I would bet the Rustoleum almond epoxy would hold up to gas and oil spills . I would use the Yellow spray can over a good auto primer . Your tank certainly could use some paint , then report back to us how it holds up.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
