I agree with the others. A couple of hundred bucks is generous for that machine. If it is a 1200, it may be worth $225. Not running and not turning over is a major red flag to me. I would be afraid of a siezed engine. I think I would offer a hundred bucks and run if he says no. If he can get that $1200 for that tractor, then I would have to say: "There is a sucker born every minute."

Called and he says it will 'click' when you try to start it. They put a battery charger on it, and it does the same thing. It sounds like they haven't tried a whole lot to get it started (but that's typically what they say I reckon). Either a bad battery or a seized motor. One is easy, and the other is a huge deal!
A 126 with an IH snowblade was for sale here locally for $500. Had a recently rebuilt motor and a repainted frame. Was missing the stuff for the front PTO though. I think it's still for sale, so I'm pretty sure this tractor with the tiller won't sell for more than $500 not running. I guess a cool thing is that this tractor for sale can use the front craftsman blade independent of raising and lowering the tiller. I'll have to look and see if they botched up the frame to attach the substitute blade. I'd much rather use the heavier IH blade if possible though.

That's far more likely to be a bad solenoid or wiring than a seized engine.

Hmmmm, I just sent an email asking him to see if the engine will turn over by hand and if it still has noticeable compression. I asked on the phone, but he didn't know. I mentioned it could be a bad battery, bad wiring, or a seized motor on the phone with him. I'll probably make the trip sometime this coming week if it seems a deal can be reached.
I don't mean to give a lowball offer, but I don't want to be ripped off ![]() Thanks for the tip about the solenoid Matt! I'll have to check that out. I had a car that you had to tap the starter solenoid occasionally to get it to start. Doug! I'm jealous, a 1650 or a even 149 would be great! Maybe more will start popping up for sale during the summer. I've used a 109 with a hydralic lift and it's so easy raise and lower stuff. Is the tiller a bear to raise and lower manually? I'm okay if it takes some effort, but will it take considerable effort?

if you have a spring assist on your manual lift , your tiller will come up easy.

EasiER IMO....although the last time I lifted a tiller + spring assist it I was probably 14 and don't have the arm strength like I do at 28.

That is high on the price. Hopefully you can work out a deal. Wave some green in front of his face, not $1200 of course, and see what happens.

Price sounds really high.
I've got a 1650 I am piecing together and here are some of my observations. 1. ISO mounts can be a pain in the arse, however, if you do the cradle mod, you shouldn't have to revisit them for a long long time. 2. The exhaust tin and mounting of it is kind of a pain - but again if you get it together, it should be OK long term. 3. QL's are wide frame, so easier to get at the tranny/drive shaft guts via removable cover on top of the mid-section of the tractor. 4. IMHO, QL's are everybit as heavy duty as any other IHCC. They can be a hassle to get repaired, i.e. ISO mounts, but once all that stuff is fixed, you got good machine. Good luck, Bill

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
