Switch is bad. I have power to the round terminal on the switch base, but not to the spade,(back side of switch is really rusted, wire brush didn't help). I also found the hydraulic lift lever is moving, but the shaft isn't moving the lever to the hydraulic valve. (Nice having a 2nd working 1450 to compare with). Guess the steering rebuild will happen sooner than later since I have to remove the dash tower to troubleshoot the hydraulics. Both 1450s have the same amount of axle "wiggle" front to rear, so I'm figuring this is normal.

Spiral pin in hydraulic lift handle was sheared. Any one know what size pin I need? (5/16ths). Thank God for Sears hardware stores! I have got to build a shed. Running out of driveway!

did you bypass the brake switch? might explain why no power to the other side of the solenoid. otherwise it might be the switch (my 1250 eats them like popcorn).

It would be worth your time to figure out why...it's obviously not supposed to be going through switches like that.

I haven't by-passed anything. Just repairing what I've found wrong. Hydraulics are repaired.

I figure they are just crappy switches Matt (I get them from the dealer but they obviously aren't IH). They corrode quickly. I can guess it's always been that way (I got it 8 years old and until I read it here I didn't realize there was a "quick connect"...mine is a series of loose pigtails.

Two safety switches need to work before the starter will turn. One is the brake switch (activated by a metal tab which brakes off some times) and Two the PTO switch itself.

other than being a big PITA to get at, I would jumper out the brake switch first. that thing is subject to all the junk (and as you point out, that little "paddle" that activates the switch is a "maintenance" item). my 1250's PTO switch is original but it sits high and apparently is not subject to much abuse. I squirt some WD40 in once and a while anyway.

Ignition switch was bad. Got a new one @ Tractor supply, but the terminals are different. Had to make m x fm spade jumpers to get correct terminals from switch to wiring harness. Tonight I'll ry to get the steering box out.

Ordered steering upgrade kits and seals & seal retainers today. Both steering columns are out. Leaned a lesson, don't remove the hydraulic valve body. Need to replace the wheel bearing on newest 1450. Cam follower wasn't even tight. I'll use medium Loc-Tite on reassembly.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
