i have found a few k301 engines where the hole in the nylon govener gear had wore out over the years and it was very slopy on the shaft. that caused the same problem.

Apparently I don't know the difference in CW and CCW, and that's all I have got to say about that.

Matt, have you ever run a 2 wheel Gravely with Gravely engine!!??

The governor was a seldom supplied option.

Be nice to other people's grandfathers'!!

Nope. That's the first I've heard of an engine in this type of application with no governor, and that'd be the exception rather than the rule. Not to mention we're talking about a Kohler in a Cub Cadet here, so that's irrelevant.

It doesn't matter who said it, it's still wrong.

Big different in a "throw away" 5 hp B&S go kart racing engine and a cast iron Kohler. WKA spec 5 hp briggs was $175 when I was racing go karts.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
