I don't think my governor is working
If I unhook my throttle linkage from the governor arm and rev the motor by hand the governor arm should be moving in an attempt to govern the motor correct? I am not feeling any force on the governor arm at any point not like I do on my 12.5hp briggs. I really hope I am missing something and I am not going to have to go into this motor this is my first cub and I just want to be playing. :bash2:

What model & engine?

Sorry K301 on a cub 124

You should definitely be feeling some force. Either the tab has broken off, or the weights on the governor gear are messed up.

It has been running and functioning but there is no throttle control it's been all or nothing it seems and surging along when it does. Is there any chance they could just be stuck? |
Stuck or broken, you'll still have to take the pan off to see what's going on. It doesn't matter at this point.

Is there some reason you have to run the governor? I mentioned it go my grandfather and he said quit worrying about the governor and just run the throttle cable straight to the butterfly is it that simple? I pulled the motor and removed the oil pan and can't tell anything about what's going on its just too crowded. I also need someone to supply me with whatever engine and carb parts I need if one of the forum sponsors would shoot me an email with a phone number I would appreciate it I much rather do business via voice than email.

Only reason to run the governor is to keep it from becoming a grenade with the pin pulled, not a question of if it will blow just when. Let’s say you’re mowing and its wide open and you break a belt. BOOM

Another thing I noticed is when I went to remove the point push pin it wouldn't come out so it must be mushroomed and I could have had timing issues along with my governor issues. Also the carburetor was in horrible shape so overall I will be much better shape after I get it all back together, the fellow who did the "restoration" on it told me he did nothing with the mechanical aspects which is very obvious. I also don't believe he knew what a lockwasher was because I pretty much took the motor off with my two fingers where everything had vibrated loose. |
