Last time I worked on this engine, as I recall, one of the grease/oil seals on the crankshaft went on what I thought was loose feeling.
Its on the flywheel end of the crank. I believe it slid on with just pushing with a couple screwdrivers down into the groove for it. I don't think its the right seal. I need to take that off and get that fixed before going any further. No need to put it back together and have to take it apart again. Its a seal that came with the overhaul kit. Could be I used the wrong one, but there were only two that looked alike. Dave |

Good to get that sorted out before going further. If you can post a pic, I'm sure one of the gurus here can help you from going bad .
It seems a digital camera is one of the most important Cub tools ...and a membership in this forum. Matt, Duke, Allen, Lew and all the others will get you going in the right direction. We in the peanut gallery can help provide motivation ! :-) John

I'll try to get a picture on here. Looks like its all rubber, been a long time since I put it in there, but as I recall it went in too easy.

It should have a metal shoulder. You may have to use some red sealant to hold it in or, go buy a Kohler brand seal. I think some of the aftermarket brand seals don't quite meet the Kohler specs.

Here are the numbers on the side of the engine.
K321A S/N 6234979 Spec No. 60166d I suspect this could be a local Oreilly Auto parts item if I can cross reference it. Dave |

I'am thinking Napa Auto might have that part too, or any of the site sponsers, and your local CC dealer man.

Dave R,
These guys have inspired me a lot! I am one of the best procrastinators on the planet too. Try to just go work on it for 15 minutes. That sometimes turns into a hour and shows some movement to the project. If you can get a heater to warm up the work area that can mean a lot this time of year. Write a to do list and chip at it a little each day. You will get back in the groove. And we are watching! I have to go get some more peanuts, this should be good! Regards, Chris

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
