I picked up an idler puiley off the rack at Tractor Supply.. I did use the lathe to turn down the extra lip on it but I don't know if it was absolutely necessary to.

Good to know on the tensioner pulley! Do you have a part number for the one you used as a replacement?

got a pulley, bracket, and spring + hardware on ebay for cheap. sent paypal for it tonight and hopefully have it within the week.

Getting deck up and going first and foremost first then ill start nit picking around and work it slowly. when i have everything and it runs better.

then i want to pull it all down and rebuild it up.

BTW do the blades on a 42" deck overlap?
i havent pulled the deck to check out the undercarriage but do you need to have the blades postioned a certain way or?
Thanks for any help.

Nice 126! Although i want to say ive seen it before . The deck blades dont overlap but should come pretty close to each other. Cant wait to see it repaired and looking like it should!

my 147 must have come from the same po. The hood had been fixed as mentioned above with some plate welded to the corner, and the hinged deflector is the same on mine. I'll get some pics up of mine.

There are no rubber 'inner straps' to prevent metal to metal contact? If mine didnt' have the originals, I'd cut a bicycle tire tube as one layer (cut it so you have a long rectangle, then trim to fit. Be creative.) is about as thick as the 'strap isolators' that are on my CC.

AMC that is def a good method. i have used it on other projects but i have some stuff i had left over from when i did the gas tank on my van. so ill use some of that. its thick/thin enough to do the job.

Gonna talk to nieghbor and see if he'll weld it up tommorow for me.

I did however pick up the head gasket and sparkplug today.
was going to start work but been in pain ever since 1pm.
stepped on a nail at work and it poked me good.
hopefully tommorow when i get up i can bare it and start to do some headway on the lil cubby

started work late but got the head pulled.
not a bad job at all. ill have to cover it up tonight. but im sure it'll be fine with the amount of oil on there.

couldnt find the leak in the gas tank???
may have to wait till monday and take it somewhere and have them pressure test it to find leaks.

the gasket wasnt in that bad of shape. actually looked new? maybe the didnt torque them down right.... not sure..

anyway heres the head

lotta build up at the valves and a decent amount of oil on the piston... rings failing me possibly?

buildup that i chipped off near the valve.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
