Thanks Jude, that's to funny, I was working on making a bail wire for the "O" today. Mine was coming along pretty good till I tried to bend it a little to far with out enough heat and it broke. Yours look great. I'm going to retry tomorrow and I'll let you know how it works out.

Arn't those wire bails still available at your local IH dealer? I'm sure I bought one just a few years ago.

Thanks for the pics Sminkey. We must think along the same lines, why buy if you can build it yourself.

ok, first gotta say thanks for all the compliments
.Junior: You're scaring me!! we think way too much alike . I didn't use any heat to make the wire bails, I did at first on a galvanized nail but just wasn't working well so I tried an arc welding rod and it worked awesome with no heat. It's pretty malable and the outer coating comes right off as you bend it. johncub: Ya power angle would be so nice, Adam's 100 has me jonesin for a 100 and a hydraulic setup! cmatthew: I only have spring assist on my O' and it works good. I have about as much tension as you can set on it so raising and lowering the blade is pretty easy. I need to get one for my 71 as the thrower is kinda heavy. I have no idea how much tension is set on it though, sorry. Shultzie: I haven't been able to locate any bails, saw them on ccspecialties and they were sold out in no time. My dealer doesn't have any and I won't buy anything from them anymore anyway. Like V@rmint said, why buy it if ya can make it too!! TEET: The shifter knob is custom made by PO, he was a machinist and he left a few of his touches on the O'. Solid brass everything is too! He made a custom oil drain plug and front wheel bushings. I'll probably discover something else when I tear it down for a complete restore. |

Jude, I sat here and laughed for 5 mins. about that. I didn't get to try again today the boss lady was off work today, so needless to say my day didn't include any time with the tractor's. I'm going to try your trick with the welding rod, I think that's a great idea. Last time I checked at my dealer they were NLA, and they are bringing 25 bucks on epay. So I'm with you on the making them for a couple pennies. I should have time tomorrow I'll let you know how it works out. I still need to get to Harbor Freight for a couple of those lights. Maybe someday I will come up with a good idea to repay you for all of yours.

Wow....I think that he already has more tractors than I do--lucky fella!!! I'm hoping to grab my QA42A and slide it on my 149 with a soft snow cab on it if plans go well tomorrow.....if so, I'll post some pictures but only if there is some white stuff around. Forecast originally called for 10" of snow, but now I think it will just be rain and ice, with maybe 1 to 2 inches. Keep the pics coming the cubs look great----anyone have custom front fenders on theirs?

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
