The shaft fits very tight in the tube of the 2000 drive shaft. I've done a few of these and they work out nice. I have one that's 54" long in my Deere dump truck.

Just as a note. As far as balance is concerned, the shaft is so small a diameter that it would have to be a HUGE weld glob before it would make any difference. Like we talking somewhere around 1-1.5 oz and even then it may not make it vibrate. The thing that would make a shaft that small shake would be it not being straight. Even then it would have to be off 1/4" or more before it would affect balance. Now, a driveshaft in like a pickup truck, is about 3" in diameter. The size of that shaft would start having balance issues. But I've made my own driveshafts before with little to no balance before. It really has to be quite a bit off.
Sam, the tractor is looking good! I think that last super you took apart was dirtier though. ![]() |

Todays report. Did the PTO, finished the drive shaft and removed the old brake pads from the backing plates. Cut the new pads. Gotta get some epoxy or JB weld to glue the new pads back on Shaft fits like a glove, fire wrench makes pad removal a 5 minute job. PTO is a lot easier than I thought. Would have gotten more done but I had to take my 1641 to my BIL's house to tow his dead Snapper ZTR onto my trailer so that I can try to fix it for him. Should have taken a pic of the Cub towing the crap box Snapper.

Sam, on the big IH tractors there is a brake pad that is glued to the piston on the dry disk brakes. I've replaced countless ones of them and used Super Weatherstrip Adhesive with no issues. Now, for the record, it is only a contact pad. In other words, no rotating motion on it. I haven't had to replace any of my brake shoes on the cubs yet, but when I do I'm going to try it on them. I would think it would hold, it's pretty good stuff! Just my

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.
MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
