Default O's and PTO's

I picked up this load of goodies the other night. Got a pretty straight original with a real nice hood and original tires, the frame is cracked in the usual spot though.(Serial number is 4 digit, sorry, didn't write down the numbers yet) Also in the deal is a frame and rearend with a PTO. This frame has been beefed up at some point. Whoever did it did an excellent job of doing it, the welds look as good as factory, and it even has the same red primer under the paint as the rest of the tractor. I believe this one has a 5 digit serial number(5x,xxx), so would it be possible that dealers were making these upgrades toward the end of the run? Most of the parts are included to complete the second frame, it came with an axle, hood, grill, and column. It also has a real nice set of cleated tires. Also got an excellent deck with original paint. Just needs the spindle covers, which I have a set already made up. This boosts my "O" count up to 5!!!

Nice find on the O's, especially the one with the rear PTO. Looks like a great deal! Whatcha got in the background? Looks like a late 706/756/826 with a German Diesel in it.

Great find with lots of extra's too! I would like to know what the serial number is. It's got the early style dash tower. Does it have collard spindles too? It's nice to see that the rear pto sheild is still there, mines been long gone. Factory, dealer and owners could all buy and install the rear pto kit so it's hard to say who installed yours.

I think it was 4xxx, I will try to write them down soon. Yes, it does have the collard spindles.

Serial Number of the earlier "O" is 9320, the "O" with the PTO is 24200. I also have a 28528 and a 37744, and one other that is in a different shed that I need to check tonight. Neat story to the #9320. The older gentleman that I bought it off of bought it off of the original owner, who claimed it to be the first Cub Cadet and sold in the city of Brazil, IN at Girton's IH.

Looks like a nice job on the retro fit on the 856 motor. Also, congrats on the 4 digit original find. Sounds like you have a great collection.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
