I bought my first IH Cub Cadet in 1980. It was a well used 86 with creeper, repowered with a K321, and 44" deck. The repower was supposed to be a brand new K321.
I wanted to treat it right so after 5 hours I went to the parts store and asked what the best oil was they offered. They sold me 10w30. After the oil change and 15 minutes of mowing, the K321 looked like I was fogging for bugs!!. With that much smoke, I decided the motor was defective, so I went to the IH dealer to get the manuals for the machine so I could rebuild the engine, and the books were in stock!! Luckily I read the manual where it said not to use 10w30, but, use 30W. The oil change corrected the engine's smoking problem and the 86 was used to mow 5 to 8 acres a week until about 1995. Then I graduated to a used 1872, 60" deck with CAT 0 3 point hitch. Still have both of them.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens.
