Default Mower deck

Hello,
I am new to this forum but not to cub cadet or older IH tractors.
Have owned my 123 for almost 13 yrs. and have repaired/rebuilt most of it.
My question is, has anyone ever had any luck installing a newer mower deck under a narrow frame tractor. I love my 123 but the deck is just shot. Been rewelded/reinforced alot. Probably weighs twice what it did originally.
Is this an unattainable endevor?

I don' t know how many salvage yards are in your area, but when I got this 149 I took a look around at my local mower salvage/repair mans place and there are 2 100's with decks out there as well as a couple of 125's I believe..You may look around your area and be surprised at what you can find

Any mower deck up till they went to the wide frames will fit.You will need the correct undercarrige and belt though. This can get real complicated.
You can take your pin on style mule drive, switch it to a QA style and use decks that were made for a 104-147,38" -48".Do you have a copy of the mower deck index CPE-2? It will help you out. Also a manual on installing one on your 123 is availible in the manuals section.
Here are some pix of the types that will fit.

Good luck and keep us posted on your progress

You could find a used narrow frame mower in good shape easier with alot less headaches.

Welcome,
I would agree don't give up on finding a good deck close by! They are all over around here. It might be more work retro fitting a newer deck, than making some repairs on a deck that would match your tractor.
I rebuilt a deck this spring and just mowed with it early September and it mowed real well. The thread is on here somewhere
These guys got me started on these cubs and its a nice hobby! Good luck!
Regard,
Chris

Thanks for all the replys. I figured it would be easier to find an old, solid, deck for my tractor. Will start looking around more. Just wondering if anyone had tried this.

Cub Cadet is a premium line of outdoor power equipment, established in 1961 as part of International Harvester. During the 1960s, IH initiated an entirely new line of lawn and garden equipment aimed at the owners rural homes with large yards and private gardens. There were a wide variety of Cub Cadet branded and after-market attachments available; including mowers, blades, snow blowers, front loaders, plows, carts, etc. Cub Cadet advertising at that time harped on their thorough testing by "boys - acknowledged by many as the world's worst destructive force!". Cub Cadets became known for their dependability and rugged construction.

MTD Products, Inc. of Cleveland, Ohio purchased the Cub Cadet brand from International Harvester in 1981. Cub Cadet was held as a wholly owned subsidiary for many years following this acquisition, which allowed them to operate independently. Recently, MTD has taken a more aggressive role and integrated Cub Cadet into its other lines of power equipment.
