Default 149 streering question.

my 149 steering seems a little sloppy. last year i broke a ball joint on the left tie rod, so i replaced both sides and the one on the lever off of the steering box. is there an easy fix to get rid of the slop that i've missed? i would have thought the new ball joints would have made a bigger difference.

........also, while googling i came across the 'ross steering upgrade kit' for $22.00 on ebay. they say that it's the next best thing to power steering. i did some checking and several reliable cub sites sell them too. basically, as far as i can tell the kit is just a washer, a lock nut, and a sealed bearing. i would appreciate hearing what makes this worth $22.00.

I am also repairing my steering box and I got a bearing number from the tech section. Its a NICE #605 and I was able to purchase it from a local industrial supplier for 6.50 plus tax. I also needed a fine thread locknut but chose to use locktite 242 on one of the original nuts instead. Will have to see how this works in the long run. I will be posting pics of another steering box that I put a piece of plastic between the jellybean shaped cover and the rotating plate. It steers really easy and all it cost was cutting a piece from the kids snow carpet. Hope this helps but I am new to this repair game so any advice I give you could slip on it.
Good luck with the steering. Have you tried turning the screw in so it makes better contact with the groove to try and get rid of some of the slop. You can remove it and smooth it up without taking the steering column out. Mine was almost destroyed.
There is lots of info about steering on this site which I found invaluable.

anyone know the thread size of the jam nut on the cam follower, Mine was missing when I took it off, and the rebuild kit didn't come with one. Thanks
